"I'd been experimenting with dramatic skies before I started this painting, and a slide I had taken of a house in Kennebunkport, Maine, became the inspiration for this watercolor. I limited the colors to a "split complementary" palette of blues with orange-based accent tones. The house itself has a lot of realistic detail, but I left the foreground abstract in contrast...dribbling, spattering and leaving large unpainted areas."
