The Color of the Waves, a highly detailed realistic Limited Edition Iris Giclee on paper. Award-winning artist Judy Lavoie was inspired by her love of dolphins, creating an original watercolor painting from which this print was produced. The playful, "smiling" dolphins are captivating, within a mingling of beautiful surreal colors and rays of sunlight filtering through the water. Judy used a unique method to create the original painting, a process of pouring just 3 colors (blue, yellow, and magenta) onto the watercolor paper, with some areas masked with latex so they wouldn't absorb the paint. When the paper dried, areas where the next lighter shades, or values, needed to be preserved were masked and another pouring was done. The colors mingled randomly, which is the beauty of this process, but Judy controlled the image so the three-dimensionality of the dolphins was created. When all the latex masking was removed, final details were painted in and the highlights were accented. The result is a stunning effect of clean, vivid colors, with the artist’s signature use of eye-catching detail and dramatic light effects. The giclee, signed and numbered in pencil by the artist, comes with a certificate of authenticity, and is being sold directly by the artist, shrinkwrapped with foamcore board. |
