"African safari reference photographs from my friends Bill and Lois were my inspiration for this mingling of lioness sisters. I chose to contrast the relaxed stupor of the sleeping cat with the alert, stiff pose of the other. I wasn't sure if this would be titled "Big Cat Nap" or "Her Watch" as I painted it, but the emphasis turned out to be on the snoozer, thus my title. This painting is a mate to another of my African wildlife paintings, Satisfaction."
