"This painting was done for our friend Bill as a Christmas surprise for his wife Julie. Sadly, 14-year old Tom died shortly after Bill asked me to do the portrait, so we knew it would be even more precious once finished. White fur is a challenge to paint, and I uses many pastel tones to create the shading and three-dimensional appearance in Tom's face. Julie's reaction upon receiving this gift gave me much joy: 'It doesn't look like a painting, it looks like Tom is here. It's incredible! You got his eyes, his ears, his mouth, everything. It's like he is breathing. I just stand in front of it and stare.'"
