|"This is our dog Maggie Mae, who we adopted from the local shelter as a very young puppy. We soon discovered that she was the most difficult pup we every raised, as we struggled to even get her to focus attention on us. She caused us so much frustration with her unwillingness to be trained that we frequently said in distress "… good thing she's cute!" Fortunately, Maggie grew out of puppyhood and is now a sweet companion who loves to be cuddled. That is, when she's not in our woods terrorizing the squirrels!
In my pet portraits, the eyes are the feature I most often try to emphasize. I chose this pose from my reference photos of Maggie because of her early tendency to be distracted rather than look us in the eye. The setting is one of our favorite hikes, to the top of Huckleberry Knob."
